I was worried the ship will shatter. So even an immortal is not his opponent, I mean I already guessed that but I wonder will they have to reach the god realm for actual competition.

Well, nothing is. At least until the part I read in novel. I stopped reading when he realised what his path is. At that point his character changes for worse as he stops being greedy and pompous.

Up to that point, explanation is like this. He is so strong simply because he can't advance from Qi level. But, his major gripe is that until he reaches next level... he can't fly and he is driven crazy. Normal ppl after 9th level advance, he can't and so he hoped that next level will finally get him there and so he trained until Qi level 9999 (each level is double strength. and there are far less levels for other ppl). And the more he wanted to fly, the more powerful he got. But, later he stops being envious and realises that he is just on different path and as such stops being fun.

I was worried about that, it started so well and it might change but hopefully the donghua will keep the momentum, as they don’t emphasis that he is bothered by the fact he can’t fly. I love his attitude I hope they keep it this way but I guess it makes sense why his attitude changes when you have nothing to strive for and no competition you just simmer down.

Well, truth be told. Character here is already watered down from novel, so drop will be far less significant. In the novel he far worse as cheapskate which makes him really funny.

Like, event with sect doors and rebuilding of the sect was so funny I was having a total comedy blast. There, how he took the doors and how he brought them was priceless. While right after that he gets attacked by army (general is previous sect master of the first sect he destroyed in the story), so... he kills the general, then forces 30000 man army under him to rebuild complete sect... and they have to pay expenses even though they are rich as fuck from completely emptying few sects

And it is not about not having competition, it is hundreds of thousands of years since he had any. Whole thing revolves around him being unable to fly. He is strong as fuck and yet enemies always escape in the air (he even says that everyone flies like a bird, while he is forced to jump around like flea). So, no matter how strong he is... he feels downed. And the longer he couldn't do that, the more pent up his feelings.

Later (now story is about 1/2 to that point) he just figures that he is a moron because he is trying to follow others when his path is obviously superior. At that point he decides to stop following the known path and figure out his own. which also releases him from feeling aggrieved whole time and instead he gets a goal and motivation

I think the donghua not focusing on him not being able to fly and more on what happened while he was cultivating for 10K years will slightly change the course of events, making it more interesting as it is now. Hopefully though, if it continues for s2 since the last episode is supposed to be episode 60.
